Spray Tans

The wonderful therapists at The Beauty Emporium share a few expert tips to make sure your next spray tan will leave you looking beautifully bronzed without any of those dreaded streaks!

Before your spray tan

To prepare your skin for a smooth, glowing spray tan, we recommend you exfoliate twice, paying extra attention to your elbows, knees and ankles.

Remove any unwanted hair at least a day or two before having your spray tan applied.

Have a shower before your tan and, just this once, resist the urge to moisturise or apply perfume or deodorant. Moisturisers form a barrier on the skin which won’t allow the tan to absorb as well and deodorant can react with the tan, making your appear skin green. Not the look we’re after!

Wear loose fitting clothing to avoid getting tan lines and streaking. It’s also a good idea to wear dark colours so you don’t have to worry about the tan rubbing into your clothes. If you can, it’s best to wear minimal footwear too, such as thongs, so that you don’t get any tell-tale marks on your feet!

After your tan

We recommend that you don’t exercise or swim for 8 hours after your spray tan and that first shower after your treatment should just be a light wash, no exfoliating this time, and then gently pat yourself dry.

Once you have that beautiful tan, remember to moisturise every day. Keeping your skin hydrated is one of best tips to follow for a gorgeous longer-lasting glow. If you need your tan to last longer than five days we recommend a tan extender, available at The Beauty Emporium.

When your tan starts to fade and it’s time for a new one, it’s best to completely remove your old spray tan first as layering spray tans can result in an orange-look or streaks. Fading spray tans can be easily removed with exfoliators.

Then get out there and show off that beautiful glowing body!
